Advanced strategic planning: a 21st-century model for church and ministry leaders / Aubrey Malphurs. — 3rd edition. pages cm Includes bibliographical references and index. ISBN (pbk.) 1. Church management. 2. Strategic planning. I. Title. BVM —dc23 After reading Gerckens' article, I started thinking about the future and what form planning and plans might take in the coming century. Although many factors will undoubtedly shape and influence planning, I want to focus on five ways in which local plans are already starting to change as we near the new century. 1. Vision Driven.

Strategic planning evolved in the second half of the 20 th Century, after World War II, as a way to apply methods that worked effectively in warfare to peacetime situations, especially in industry. Today the world is so different and fast-changing, old-style strategic planning can be a self-defeating waste of time, money and resources, yet certain fundamentals are still valuable. The difference between 20th Century Strategic Planning and 21st Century Strategic Planning is that, in the 20th Century, once a company established its Mission and Vision Statements (where it wants to be in the future), the principal part of the planning process was involved in what to do in the next year to help move the business in the.

In the 21st century, the DOT is facing challenges that cannot be managed without the types of perspec- tive, skills, and information that planners have within their reach. The 21st century definition of planning does not focus on process; it focuses on decisions and solutions. Chicago. American Planning Association N. Michigan Ave., Suite Chicago, IL Phone: Fax:
